Sound Around Town is a citizen scientist driven study of urban soundscapes and how individuals are impacted by the.

There are four goals to this project.

  • Improve NPS National Sound Map with volunteer-collected soundscape recordings from residences across cities in the US.
  • Investigate spatial and temporal relationships between anthropogenic sounds and biotic sounds in residential landscapes.
  • Map disparities in soundscapes (anthropogenic and natural) and noise (perceptions sounds) across and among neighborhoods in cities.
  • Investigate links between participation in Sound Around Town and awareness, feelings, and efficacy about soundscapes and noise pollution.
